Dear community,
I have emergency light lamps that use Ni-Cd batteries. Most of the time power is supplied to a lamp and its battery is in a state of fully charged. I know that for optimal lifespan the battery needs to be periodically discharged.
My questions are:
- How often does a Ni-Cd battery need to be discharged and is a full discharge needed?
- Is the discharge itself or the following recharge what makes a battery have an optimal lifespan?
Lamp’s manual: https://www.olympia-electronics.com/sites/default/files/923378005_09_010_gr-89leds_en-min_4.pdf
From product’s manual it is not clear to me whether for optimal lifespan a discharge every 2 months is needed or every 4-5 months would be okay as well. Also, it is not clear to me whether a full discharge is needed and how long that might take (a healthy battery provides certain level of illumination for 3 hours minimum).
I wrote to the manufacturer but did not get the answers.
Best regards,
Nick
