Distributed Energy Storage
It is a kind of energy supply method which is arranged on the customer side and integrates energy production and consumption, and can provide customers with a variety of energy supply of cooling, heating and electricity, with the characteristics of local utilization, clean and low-carbon, multi-interaction, flexible and efficient, etc. It is an indispensable and important part of modern energy system.
The necessary auxiliary of distributed energy system, distributed energy storage system access location is flexible, currently mostly in low- and medium-voltage distribution network, distributed power generation and microgrid, customer-side applications.
Application scenarios of distributed energy storage system
Distributed energy storage can be mainly applied in three scenarios including user side, distributed power side and distribution side; it can provide services for grid companies, industrial and commercial enterprises with large electricity needs and electrical energy and areas with high requirements for energy storage and public buildings.
❖ User side
User side is mainly used for peak-shaving and valley-filling tariff arbitrage, PV + energy storage, backup power for communication base stations, backup power for data centers, and building microgrids.
(1) Standby power: Distributed energy storage system can be used as uninterruptible power supply (UPS) to ensure power supply for important loads during power outages due to its fast response capability.
(2) Participation in demand-side response: Based on the peak-to-valley price difference, it helps customers to stagger their power consumption without changing their power consumption habits, thus reducing the cost of power purchase.
❖ Distributed power side
The power generation side is mainly used for smoothing new energy generation and smoothing the output of new energy sources such as wind power and photovoltaic, whose output is characterized by inter-song, randomness and volatility, while the combination of distributed energy storage system and distributed power sources can significantly improve the operating characteristics of these distributed power sources, suppress their power fluctuations, enhance power dispatchability and realize their end-node voltage control.
❖ Power Distribution Side
The grid side is mainly used for peak and frequency regulation, peak shaving and valley filling, and increasing grid stability.
(1) Realizing peak and valley reduction of load: using distributed energy storage devices to discharge at peak load and charge at low valley load.
(2) Grid frequency regulation: distributed energy storage system has the characteristics of fast response speed and high output power control accuracy.
