I am looking into using an existing battery (12-V 2200-mAh) for our system (microcontroller and a lidar sensor).
The existing battery is currently powering a microcontroller and some wireless transmitters. Upon using a multimeter, we found that the mechanism uses 30-mA when idle, and 200-mA of current during a 10-second period of actuation.
Our microcontroller requires a 5-V input voltage, so I am looking to use a switching regulator for the controller.
I was wondering if you could guide me how to find out if this existing battery will be enough to power both systems. I also would like to know if regulating the 12-V voltage to output 5-V will affect the 2200-mAh capacity.
Thanks for your time.
